Bankfield School Eco Club
Embarks Upon Inspiring Project
The 5 th December was the date that The Bankfield School’s Eco Club got the chance to improve their surrounding environment.
The club decided to plant trees in the school grounds not only to help the environment but also in memory of Mrs Riley who worked here at The Bankfield School for 10 years.
The day of planting trees
The day started off with having a safety induction for the students on how to use the spades correctly (with out hitting each other with them!)-the students were then shown how to plant the trees in the correct way (so that the roots were not damaged). After this, the pupils were then left to plant their trees in pairs…
Even the teachers got involved. Miss Barry said, ‘It’s great because not only are we helping our environment but there’s great teamwork going on, this will definitely help to bring the students together.’
The Ashley School came along to Bankfield to help our Eco Club plant trees. This helped the schools to bond and also to get to know each other throughout the day.
The project of planting trees in and around the school grounds greatly helps the environment. This is because trees absorb harmful carbon dioxide from the air and emit oxygen into it. It also improves the appearance of the school and makes it look prettier.
Mr Williamson the Vice Chairman of Governors said, ‘‘This is a fantastic project because trees are a great thing’.
The future
The Bankfield School is helping to make the future a greener one for future generations of students at the school. The trees also help towards reducing the carbon footprint that the school creates.
A Plaque of Remembrance
A plaque etched with Mrs Riley’s name will be placed with the trees in her honour. This will help to commemorate her ten years of hard work at the school that have greatly help both students and staff, as will the newly planted trees.
We hope that all the hard work that the students have put into planting the trees will show our gratitude towards Mrs Riley.
